Boston Medical Center - Chiller Replacements
Boston, Massachusetts
Boston Medical Center is comprised of two City hospitals — Boston City Hospital and the Boston Specialty and Rehabilitation Hospital — with a private academic medical center and Boston University Medical Center Hospital. Together, these exceptional hospitals reflect more than 200 years of service and a mission to provide consistently excellent and accessible health services to all in need of care, regardless of status or ability to pay.
The Medical Center initiated a comprehensive maintenance and facilities upgrade program after the merger. As part of this program, Beacon Piping Company successfully installed three new York 1000-ton chillers at Boston Medical Center. The project required careful site planning and rigging because Beacon personnel had to "float" the chillers through the side of the building by removing a glass wall on the third level, some 80 feet above street level. The project included careful scheduling, extensive demolition, piping replacement, and rigging.
