One of the final phases of the Central Artery Tunnel Project is the construction of the Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway, which is located directly over the new tunnel.
The removal of the old elevated Central Artery (formerly I-93) created 27 acres for a new tree lined boulevard with cross streets, sidewalks, parks and other refurbished space that used to be in the shadow of the highway above.
Beacon Piping Company has been contracted to construct the two water fountains that are being placed in the North End Park section of the Rose Kennedy Greenway. The fountains are adjacent to the Faneuil Hall Marketplace on either side of Hanover Street, the gateway to the North End. The fountains will be the focal point of these new civic spaces.
